Insurance Comparison Sites
One of the recent developments in
the Car Insurance Market has been the emergence of a number of
"price comparison" sites. You enter your details just
once and their server trawls a large number of insurance providers
looking for the cheapest quote. These are all listed out for you
to choose, or go elsewhere.
More recently, it has become
possible to get quotes for Classic Cars by this method (they are
listed in the drop-down menus) and I have been able to get
quotes for post 1948 Standards from at least 2 sites, there may be
others.
This is what I found
www.moneysupermarket.com
were the most comprehensive and offered 13 quotes between £83
p.a. and £375 p.a for my particular requirements, location,
desired excess and
risk. This was for one car, earlier cars were not recognised and
they were also not able to offer multiple or fleet policies.
However, this lowest price may be attractive to some of you but
will vary according to individual risk and excess.
www.confused.com
were also able to offer a range of policies.
www.gocompare.com
works by using registration numbers to find car details on the
DVLA computer, which was unable to recognise my cars at this time.
My conclusion is that for
owners of single '50s Standards it is worth entering your details
to get a quote. Inevitably, you will get a follow-up telephone
call, so be prepared for that.
Also, ensure that you are being
quoted for "Agreed Value" and the right to buy back the
salvage if your car is written off,, both of these applied to the quotes I have.
Alternatively, try Footman James
and any other Specialist Classic Car insurers that you see
advertising in the Classic Press. Its a buyers market.
The mention of any name or
company here is not a recommendation, either by me or the Standard
Motor Club. The onus is on you to ensure you have the correct
insurance for your risk.
I hope this is helpful.
