A Review of: TRIUMPH AND TRAGEDY -
The story of Sir John Black - The Legend behind Standard and Postwar Triumphs.
Sir John's younger son, Nicholas Black, has written a fascinating book about his father. I have known Nick myself for some years and had the privilege of seeing the book's original manuscript before it went to publication. I was more than interested in it then - and I'm more than interested in it now, because Nick has added a lot more content to the version I first read. I can say that no-one - but no-one - could have written a book about this man as Nick has done. It is written from an entirely Father and Son perspective and in the pages, we see Sir John as the family man and not one of England's former Captains of Industry. IMHO, this is an absolute "must-have" and "must-read" for any Standard-Triumph enthusiast because no other author could write of this man as Nick has done. So,
a little about the book. It's 144 pages, paperback and
perfect bound. Best of all are the 120 photographs that
come mostly from Nick's family albums, though I was privileged
to supply a few of my own. The book retails for GBP 15.00 with
P&P an extra GBP5.20 on top for North America. Roughly
this total of GBP20.20 translates into around US$32.30 on
current exchange rates. To order your copy, go to:

There's
absolutely no financial interest myself, though I'm greatly
flattered that Nick Black asked me to write the Foreword to this
tribute to his late father and this is something I take as a
great honour as Sir John Black truly was a most remarkable man
and someone I met many times as a child.
Enjoy!
