Churchill Show 2006

Report on the 2006 Show at Churchill

Four Canley products together, from front - 1937 Standard Flying12 DHC, 1925 Charlecote, TR3 and Triumph Stag

This show only happens every other year but in my opinion is always one of the most enjoyable shows that the Club attends. Churchill is a tiny village near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire. The place only has a few houses, a pub, a church, and between the two the most picturesque Cricket green. Its on that green that the 400 cars plus of all marques gather and the event is always "sold out". All proceeds go to charity of course.

We arrived around 11.00am in the Flying 12 and were soon joined by Paul Newsome and Linda in the Charlecote, John and Rachael in the Flying 9 and the Lockley brothers in the Swallow Doretti. Unfortunately it was so crowded we couldn't all park together, though with a bit of organisation, we were able to park the Charlecote and the Flying 12 next to each other and leave enough room between us to set up a our picnic table and chairs. We were blessed with glorious June weather, a real-ale beer tent, a brass band, icecream and a super picnic. All in all, very English we thought.

A very presentable Standard 10 was on the field too, it was advertised at £1500 and will make someone a very good car at that price - but we still couldn't persuade Graham Lockley to purchase it. We will have to ban him from Standard events until he starts coming in a proper car of his own. Then at 3.30pm a leather-clad motorcyclist arrived. Its Werner Maurer from Switzerland just dropping in from Zurich via the Isle of Man TT Races. The man should be certified! The poor Swiss man is starving, so he finishes off most of  the picnic! He tells us that he is learning to cook, just as well really! Maybe he won't go so hungry in the future.

As usual you can see enlargements of all the photos just by clicking on them:
