Town and Country Festival 2006 Report

The Town and Country Festival, August 2006

The Club stand before the crowds arrive on Bank Holiday Monday

The club was in a prominent spot for the three days of the "Town and Country" festival held at The National Agricultural Centre at Stoneleigh this August Bank Holiday. Lynda and I attended just one day, the Monday with the Flying 12 Drophead but there was a wide variety of club cars present on each of  the 3 days.

By prominent, I mean we were exactly opposite the "Dancing Sheep Show" and just up from the Water Buffalo Burgers and Scrumpy Cider. I think those items probably demonstrate just some of the variety of things to do, see and eat at this show.

Amongst the guests who came to see us was Bill Clarke who worked for Standard and its Leyland successors from 1940 -1983. In the later part of his career Brian was Chief Metallurgist and responsible for the sign-off of all the materials used to make components for our cars.

Whilst attendance from the public was up, we felt that the number of traders stalls and stands was down this year compared to earlier shows. We understand that the new organisers have raised their prices for traders and this probably is the cause of it - we hope that the policy is not repeated next year for we would hate to see the number of traders fall further and the popularity of this show fade away.

As is my usual practice, each of the thumbprints below can be clicked to bring up an enlarged version:

The differences between the rear ends of the Light 12, left, and the Heavy 12 saloons are demonstrated by these 2 photographs.
