Standard Flying 8 Tourer restored in Inda

Prewar Flying 8 Tourer Restoration

The newly restored Standard takes part in the Republic Day celebrations, 26th Jan 2009, proudly wearing a Standard Motor Club badge

Girish has emailed me from India with these photos of the restoration of his 1940 Flying 8 Tourer, which is now almost completed

Girish's restoration has taken him six months. The most difficult part was making a replica of the radiator grille which uses steel rods for the vertical slats. This will be replaced with an original when one can be found ( Does anyone have an original grille?)

The exterior has been finished in Jet Black with and red interior with a black floor mat and Khaki hood.

Also, the trafficator slots had been welded up so new slots had to be cut and fitted with new trafficators purchased in the UK.  Girsih also has the correct pair of headlamps but is awaiting their delivery from the UK.

The only work pending is a  proper hood. Girish has made a request for drawing and photos of the hood on the SMC forum so hopefully he will be supplied with the information he needs to complete the hood.

The steering wheel also comes from a 1950's 8 or 10 so Girish is in need of the correct one for his car . He is also missing two hubcaps. The clutch needs some minor repairs but overall he reports that the car is running well.

More photos of the restoration are available here.

I think we get the idea how pleased you are with the car from the wide grins on the faces of the driver and front seat passenger!
