Devon & Cornwall’s Welsh Holiday

Most of the participants in the Welsh Tour are captured at Kington Vintage Festival. Chris Bowden and Ray Horne are probably in the Autojumble!

This was to be our second holiday in Wales this summer, and this one was to be with the Devon and Cornwall Group in mid Wales, based at Howey, just outside Llandrindod Wells. This time is was to be in the 1937 Flying 12 so we could make more progress per day than is possible in the 1922 SLO we used for the earlier register rally. On Tuesday we made the 170 mile trip across country  pausing only on the A44 at Bourton on the Hill for a lunch stop. The rest of the party had already arrived, having come up from Devon pausing at the Old Ford Inn at LLanhamlach for their lunch. So by 6.30pm we were all gathered for pre-dinner drinks.

The Three Wells hotel was to be our base for the next six nights, whilst we made day trips out to local places of interest and indeed some not so close. The hotel was prettily situated down a lane outside the village and overlooking a lake. Over the following days we were able to visit the following:

On board the train from Devils Bridge

Amongst the lakes and Dams on the Elan valley

3 Wise men!

Breakfasts and some evening meals were taken in the hotel, but other evenings we tried restaurants in Llandridnod and further afield. On every evening we were able to relive the events of the day  with our fellow participants in the bar over a few jars of Monty's local real ale.
