The Devon Standard Group start 2018

Members of the Devon group usually like to start the New Year with a trip to the annual classic vehicle gathering at the Sedgemore Livestock Market between Taunton and Bridgewater, on New Year’s day.  Whilst the weather can not be guaranteed there is always a warm welcome as the group enjoy a catch up, get to drive their cars for the first time in the year and share our Christmas left overs.

This year we decided on a change.  We had arranged to have our New Year get together at a local historically interesting industrial heritage site, Coldharbour Mill, Uffculme, nr Cullumpton. We were luck enough to visit on one of the few occasions in the the year when the mill fire up their boilers and start their steam driven machinery.

We were given free entry to the site as a thank you for joining the display of historic vehicles, and were able to join a free guided tour, enjoy a drink in the café and enjoy our local groups tradition of sharing our left over Christmas goodies and fresh mince pies.  A lovely friendly gathering and a great start to the year.

The end of January saw thirty Standard members sit down for our Annual carvery lunch at The Countryman Inn at Sampford Courtney.  It was a great success, good company, nice food and lots of banter with even the odd bit of autojumble changing hands. Thank you to those who brought along their classic cars to the meal and those that joined us from far a field.

Having got the year off to a good start we are all looking forward to the rally season, which will start with our club stand at Killerton, National Trust property, on Sunday 13th May 2018.
