New Year's Day Event

Hi Phil,

Please find attached 3 photos of my 1957 Standard 8 on the annual New Year's Day run of the Midland Vehicle Preservation Society. I think I've been an ever present  on the run for the last 20 years usually in the 8 as it's the warmest of my fleet and most watertight but some years either in the Vanguard or Doretti.  Most years I have been the only Standard as was the case this year in spite of giving the event some publicity on the Club Forum.

This year we went from Longford Park in Coventry to the Man At Arms pub at Bitteswell near Lutterworth, Leicestershire for an excellent lunch. There was a fine selection of cars ranging from pre-war to modern and the weather was dry throughout so the car didn't even get dirty.

Most years the afternoon has been spoilt by having to hose the car underneath and give it a good clean.

My brother Graham took the photos which are:-

1.Arriving at Longford Park for the off at 11a.m.

2.Passing through the village of Shilton

3.Approaching the final destination through the village of Ullesthorpe.

If you would like to join me next new year's day, please use my contact information in the Standard Car Review to get in touch.

Thank you Peter,

I am delighted to receive all roadrun reports. Like this one, it might take me a while, but I will get round to publishing them all, eventually. Members, please send me your reports, to
