The Manchester Group held its annual Christmas lunch at the Albany Hotel in Heywood, Lancashire on Sunday 13th December 2009 – another well organised event thanks particularly to the efforts of Bryan Jones and all those who assisted or donated to the raffle which raised £111 for club funds (hope you got what you wanted from Santa Bryan).
Members, their families and friends made up the number attending to 76 which just beats last year – great to see everyone! As always the meal put on by the Albany Hotel staff was excellent, all served promptly and hot just as we like it – the turkey was nick-
This event also serves as our prize giving for deserving members. The Monthly Meeting Attendance Award that entitled the winner to a token for a Sunday lunch with wine for two and presented annually, was drawn out of the hat due to the large number who qualified and was won by Ian Cochrane. The Member of the Year Cup, the pristine award of the year was presented to Alex Robertson who, it was felt as Run & Events Organiser, Assistant Show Manager, and Group Photographer had most helped to develop the activities and interest within the Group during the year. Alex has contributed so much to the Group and his enthusiasm is no doubt one of the major reasons why the membership is rapidly increasing. Morwena Jones was awarded the Merit Cup for her tireless work as the Catering and Public Relations Officer feeding us all at meetings, heckling and keeping Bryan in check. Jean Shuttleworth our Group Secretary received the Organisers Award for keeping all the records, compiling meeting minutes, being such a good all round sport, and, most importantly, selling raffle tickets. A special presentation of an evening meal out was then given by the remaining Group Management members to Dr. Bryan Jones, Morwena Jones and Jean Shuttleworth for their devoted work in starting and developing the Group through its first decade. A vote of thanks was given to everyone who helped out during the year.
Not so much a meal for members, more a gathering of friends.
Well done to all the award winners and the Albany Hotel. Look forward to seeing everyone in the NewYear, we have a full season ahead!
