Event Report - Standards Win 1st and 2nd Prize

The two prizewinning Standards - do you remember what last summer looked like?

NNCA Summer Fair & Classic Car Show, 23rd August 2009

What a gorgeous day, all bar the strong winds, the sun shone from the moment we arrived right up until we left.

There was an excellent turnout, for size of event, of classics and modern classics, including an Aston Marten DB9, Jaguar and Ford Granada MKII 2.8 Ghia Auto; I remember fitting number plates to these as an apprentice, oh how time flies. Talking of flying the model aircraft display was a sight to see, despite the strong winds. Our find of the day was a Standard Flying Eight Tourer, in two tone Beige and Brown, what a lovely car, and got our vote for the day, but being Standard owners we are biased...

We had a wander round the cars and the stalls, Zena found some bargains on the second hand book stall. Always a pull for the ladies.

The niceties, for us, of this kind of event is that there was enough going on to hold interest for longer, especially with the excellent agility displays from the Rackheath Agility Clubs display team, and the Kelling Model Aircraft flying club, with their famous ‘Toffee Drop’ finale, always a favourite with the young, and apparently the not so young, sorry didn’t get a pic of that, got tied up extolling the virtues of my Ten to a passer by. The day seemed to pass so quickly and it was on to the results of the Classic Cars. Being a self judging competition the results can sometimes be surprising, imagine our delight at being told we were in the running with second place, and even greater delight when we found that the Flying Eight had come first, I’m sure John Black would have been pleased.But here they are the three winners;

First Place: David & Carol Leech, with their Standard Eight Tourer

Second Place: Stuart & Zena Lucas; with our 1934 Standard 10, it was her 75th Birthday on the 17th August.

And by no means last, but in a well deserved third place, in a very well presented Daimler DB18 convertible was Geoff Holland.

Well done to all who entered and made a great turnout for classic cars in North Norfolk, on what would have been, save for the wind, a very hot summer’s day. We only just got home in time to save our tomato plants from wilting in our summer house. Our thanks to Geoff and all the NNCVC team who were involved with the organising and to the NNCA team for running the event.

Hi Stuart,

First my apologies for misfiling your article and only rediscovering it when you reminded me. Hence I am sorry I am so late in featuring it.

What this demonstrates of course is that our Standards can compete with any marque and my congratulations to Zena and yourself, David and Carol on this splendid result.

We all hope to see these 2 great cars at the 2010 International Rally
