SUPPORT YOUR AGM

SUPPORT YOUR AGM! Robert Browett, member 44

You will see from my membership number that I joined our club in its earliest days when the AGM was always the big event to kick off our social activities for the New Year. We would regularly see 40+ members with around half participating in the morning road run. Last year’s AGM was held as usual at The British Motor Museum, Gaydon, and included a road run plus excellent presentations from our committee. Unfortunately, Peter Lockley’s excellent road run was undertaken by only four cars (two Standards and two Triumphs) and the presentations in the afternoon were delivered to fewer members than the whole of the committee! I'm just a club member. Considering all the work put in it must have been dispiriting for the committee members, to say the least!

This must not happen again and your full support for this important function is requested, because if it is not forthcoming, we will quite possibly lose the occasion, which will be replaced by an on-line ‘zoom’ meeting, as has happened with the TR Register, who consider it to be purely a business event.

To counter this situation, we need to ensure that our AGM is very much a members’ meeting and that it is our first real club social meeting of the year. So, for 2025 the following changes will be introduced:

Road run – this year we'll be setting off from the museum at Gaydon at 11.00am and have a 45-minute road run together, touring the lovely surrounding south Warwickshire countryside. All Standards, Triumphs or other classic cars are welcome. On return, we'll have time for a look around the excellent Museum - at no cost! If your classic car is not ready or the distance is too far then do come to the museum in your modern vehicle.

Lunch – a ticketed buffet will be available in our private room at £13.50 per person, served at 12.30. You should pay for this in advance by Friday 28th March, via the Club Webshop (so we have numbers for catering). A QR code and tinyurl – see below - will take you to the booking page.

Meeting – our Members’ Meeting and AGM will start at 2.00pm and follow the usual format, with time for questions and feedback. Your committee is keen to hear your ideas and suggestions. The meeting is expected to finish by 4.00pm. Complimentary tea and coffee will be served halfway through the meeting.

Attendees – We appreciate that this is a one-day event and attendance may not be practical for those members living long distances away. However, for members living within a reasonable driving distance we really need your support and ask you to make an effort to attend. Furthermore, it would be good to ‘fly the flag’ with as many Standards and Triumphs and other classics as possible in our line-up for the road run at 11.00am. As the run starts this year from the British Motor Museum at Gaydon it couldn’t be easier to find. More details of the day will be published in the March edition of the Review but meanwhile put that date, 13th April 2025, in your diaries now!

To book your lunch (by 28th March 2025)

Here’s the QR Code. Just scan with your mobile phone and it will take you to the booking page for buffet lunches at the British Motor Museum in seconds. Book by 28th March 2025 as we need to pre-order catering. It couldn’t be easier!
