Archive Photos of a Standard Avon 10/12

Hello;

While browsing the family albums, I came across the following Standard pictures taken at St. Vincent's hamlet in Essex, 1951ish.  The registration number seems to have an N then and 7697 as the last four characters, but I  could be wrong.  Alas, the car is no longer in our possession, it was sold in 1952 and replaced by a Lagonda 16/80.  I'm happy to say this did stay in the family and is now sitting in my garage undergoing a restoration.  We had a 1960 Vanguard later on, but it wasn't designed for the salt used on Canadian roads in winter and rapidly turned into rust!

Anyway, I thought these photos might be of interest to the Standard club, particularly if the car still exists.  I am curious as to what precise model and year it was, since I couldn't find anything on line with the valanced wings while searching "Standard 12".  I assume it was a Standard 12 because that's what my mother wrote beside one of the pictures.

Best regards,
Alec Rivers-Bowerman

Hi Alec,

Thanks for the photos, they are most interesting

I recognise the car as a 1934 Standard Avon 2 seater with Dickey. It commonly was fitted with a "10", but sometimes with a
"12" engine to make it a little more "sporting". The New Avon Company produced coachbuilt bodies on Standard chassis
throughout the early 1930's. A "10" survives and is active in the Club, though sadly the registration does not match yours

Here are recent photos of that car:

That said there are slight differences, the windscreen surrounds being different. It was common for coachbuilt cars to be
different one to another as the company tried improvements or cost-cutting.

Kind regards,
