Postwar Standard 8 Tourer in Alaska:
The first snows of
winter fell in Fairbanks, Alaska on 13th October

"Proud owner Larry Bennett,
warmly clothed in his marten-skin trappers hat and Sergeant-Preston-of-the-Yukon
jacket, enjoys a crisp Fairbanks Alaska winter morning beside his 1947 Standard 8A Tourer,
before putting it away in the garage for the long Alaskan winter."
Larry has imported this car, bringing it with him from New Zealand. The first snowfall of
the winter, just last Sunday, was encouragement for him to take the car out for this
superb picture. (Why not use it on your Christmas cards, Larry?) The 8 carries the
personalised plate, "Noddy" and is decorated with the Union Jack and Alaskan
State Flags. Thanks for emailing it to me , Larry and for flying the flag. Is this our
most northerly Standard?
I am aware that there are other cars
and information that could be added to this site to make it more comprehensive, so if you
have material and photographs, please let me know. Please send me, Phil Homer, a
