Karl Bhote
writes "These are pictures of the Mark 1 Herald
I have taken over the years. MHP 147 is perhaps the oldest
known herald in India, with the registration dating to
late 1961. I was told the car was recently scrapped. Pity,
because it was complete, even with original paint. Only
the front sidelights were changed. |

MHP 245 is
again one of the oldest, it being just a couple of months
later than 147. It was owned by one family till 2000, with
the owner even having
rallyed it for a while. Note the cool chrome bumpers,
unique to India. These are after market items, being
manufactured in the 60s and 70s by Vidyut motors in
Bombay. She now belongs to Shyam Krishnamachary, who wrote
in to you earlier, but will soon be sold.

A fine example
of the later Mk1s is AP 10 M 6000 (newer registration) or
Dharampur 6, as she was earlier known, is perhaps the most
original and untouched herald in India, and possibly the
world! She was earlier owned by
the Maharaja of Dharampur (all maharajas had these quaint
personalised red number plates), and has covered just 5002
kms to date! The paint, upholstery,
everything is as it left the factory! Unbelievable. I have
not seen the car, but Shyam sent me these pictures..

Another fine
example of a Mark 1 herald is MHP 2547, it has been
recently restored." |
