Karl Bhote continues the
comprehensive history of Standard production in India with
these Herald Mk 2's.
MHJ 1074 was owned by my father years ago, and was an
early Mk II example (1966). I managed to dig out these
photos from the family album. |

MHJ 5022 (below) is a lovely powder blue
example of the mk II, owed from new by one Mary Solomon.
The car is still in daily use, and all original, barring
the front indicators which should be round and not
rectangular. Again, 66. |

MHJ 5452, also 1966, is the
intermediate model of mkII. This car (very shabby as you
can see!) has the regular roof design but a recess-less
bootlid. |

|
|
MHJ 8535, 1967, is the last
model of MK II. This type had the recess-less bootlid, as
well as a different roof design, nescessary, as it was
required for the 4 door Model, the Mk III. This is also
the first model to switch to black faced meters on the
dash, as opposed to silver faced units. Of special
interest in this particular car are the rear windscreen
blinds. Extremely rare, and I am very lucky to have found
a brand new set from the erstwhile dealer here in Pune.
Have you ever seen these? Or are they India specific?
Again, note the India specific aftermarket bumpers."
