on an SS1 in Sweden

The page
could be wider so that I can get all that bonnet in!
Here's a good original SS1 in
Sweden. Club member Lasse Dixelius bought this car some time
ago with a Triumph Dolomite engine fitted. Fortunately the
original 16Hp 6 cylinder engine was supplied with the car and
Lasse is presently in the process of rebuilding it.
The Club's
Spares Scheme has been successful in supplying many of the
parts required to recondition the Standard side valve engine.
The SS1 uses the 16Hp Standard chassis,
engine and
mechanicals from 1934, clothed in a William Lyons body by the SS
company. This is the Coupe bodywork but there is also an open 4
seater Tourer. Some say that SS stood for Standard Swallow but there are
other theories, Lyons would not confirm it. What is not in doubt
is that the company renamed itself as Jaguar after the war when
they started producing cars without Standard input. The rest is
automotive history, as they say.
Thank you Lasse for your interest in
sending in the photos, please send us more when it is back on the
road.
Regards,
Phil Homer
