Ensign 16 tackles Austrian Passes in 1936

The Ensign is on
a jack, whilst a group of local Austrian children help with the
spare wheel. Poor kids appear to have no shoes!
Hi Phil,
VC 7247 with my Grandfather, Dr.
William FRASER ANNAND of Coventry on holiday in Austria
in 1936/7 and with his son, my father changing a wheel much to
the astonishment of the onlookers! I still have the
wooden luggage box as seen in the photo, which is now covered
as a dressing table! Which Standard is this please?, and
any idea if it still exists? What year was this car,
please?
Regards,
Kenneth Runciman Annand

Another
shot of the Ensign in Austria. Unless I am mistaken, this
appears to be the Hockner tunnel in the Grosseglockner |

Closer
to home, the Ensign posed outside a country house.
The wooden box is again in evidence

Hi Kenneth,
Thank you for these splendid
photos.
This appears to be a circa 1931
Ensign 16. We don't have a record of this surviving.
Your grandfather must have been
quite a pioneer, as it must have taken a long time to drive to
Austria in the 1930's, never mind the steep passes that he must
have encountered once he was there. Obviously it expresses
complete confidence in his Standard.
Kenneth has send more
pictures of Standards in his family that I will feature
shortly
Phil
Postscript:
I originally thought that this was
a Big 9, but in the side photograph, the longer bonnet covering the six cylinder
engine is apparent. The cabin of the saloon is the same as Big 9
My apologies for getting it wrong,
I sometimes do! My thanks to Steve Gallichan for correcting me.
