Frederick Dycer, a new Member has written in with these pictures and story about his 1927 Standard 9 Falmouth Weymann bodied saloon.
This was previously unknown to the Club and is the earlier Short Wheelbase 1153cc version. Welcome Frederick, and we hope to see the car at our events. Here is the story:
The car was discovered when an abandoned factory was opened up after many decades, I understand, in Kent.
It was in a very dilapidated state but in dry stored condition. Mechanically, it was very sound throughout. She has since been fully restored and given a full retrim duplicating the original interior along with the original instrumentation and woodwork. New carpets are also fitted.
She is equipped with a wonderful 'Stanlight' roof which folds back. The Weyman pattern fabric body has also been recently recovered and is in excellent condition. An original buff log book, manual and spare parts catalogue accompanied the vehicle when I purchased her.
In 1927, The Autocar magazine announced the model's arrival rating at 8.9 HP and introduced at Olympia. The new fabric saloon was known as the Falmouth model and was selling at £198 10s 0p. This model is a very early production model being car number 35.
Regards, Fred Dycer.
