Mick Brown tells how his Standard Companion came into his life.
I had a few classic cars over the years.
About 15 years ago I had a Consul 375 lowline Ford Anglia, a couple of Hillman imps, just to name a few, but when I reached 63, I decided it was time to get another classic car for when I retire.
After searching the internet I came across the Standard 10 Companion. I'd never seen one before even though I had been interested in classic cars for a long time. I immediately thought this is the one for me without even viewing it in person.
I rang the chap and told him to deliver it and I would pay for it there which I did. I would say it was in pretty good nick but running North and the headlining was missing, which I did myself from some material I got on the internet. A couple of wing mirrors and tyre work, wants a touch in here and there, but I am not after a concours car - it's a car I want to run around in as it makes people smile. Out of all my classic cars, this one makes me feel good when I drive it and when I park it outside my front door.
I even get people knocking on my door and asking me about it. It definitely gives you the good feelings - people say conversation is dying with all the internet, but when you have a classic car and go to a classic car show, everybody becomes so friendly and wants to start a conversation with you. It's just a great conversation starter.
Well done on the acquisition of your rare car Mick, and we hope to see you about at Standard Events.
