I have recently uncovered this photograph in the Standard Motor Club’s archives.
It is believed to be of a prototype Saloon on the Model SLS chassis which dates it to about 1919. Surviving SLS’s are 2-seater Tourers with a further dickey seat in the opening boot. The company also made 4- seater Tourers on an extended Chassis. This must be the same chassis that underpins this Saloon.
I can’t help but think that the shaped windows make this rather a good looking car. I suspect however that all that glass and metal would have made the car very heavy and probably too much for a modest 1328cc sidevalve engine to pull along. Saloon bodies of any marque were a comparative rarity at the time.
So far as I know, no further examples were manufactured.
For contrast I have included a photo of a 2 seater SLS Tourer, below.
