National Restoration Show - Stoneleigh, Warwickshire

The Restoration Show ,Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire CV8 2LH will return on  Sunday  25^th October and as usual the club will have a stand.

We will be displaying three Standard cars on our stand and as befits a Restoration Show one of them is a complete wreck but it’s also a great way to see a car before it gets restored.

Our wreck is Shaun Russell’s post war “Flying” 4/8A Tourer in a full rust livery with a few patches of paint and crying out to be rescued though it’s unlikely that anyone but Shaun would do so and even he will have to be brave.

As a comparison we’ll have Paul Dowson’s 1939 Flying 8 saloon in blue which is a similar colour to one of the surviving patches of paint on the Tourer. Though the two cars are largely similar the post war models have a few differences so it’s always as well to check and having the two together is a great way to view them if you are restoring one or the other, which is the whole point of a Show such as this.

Our third car will be another very different Eight, mine from late 1957,which is the Gold Star  model launched in April 1957 with “8 new plus features” when compared with earlier models, namely a new opening rear boot with 12 to 38 cu. feet of luggage space enabling me to bring in all  the Club’s stand material, a new frontal  grille, new bright interior fittings, new interior light, new luxury trim, new Standard economy and a new Gold Star 803c.c. Power Plus engine to quote from the brochure.

Unfortunately there won’t be room for an earlier 8 on the stand, but last year we were given more space at the last minute so one may appear. However, the stand will be manned with knowledgeable members so you can look at the car and be advised why it’s different or the same as your own.

Additionally there is always a huge autojumble at this Show and whereas members are well advised to use the extensive Club spares scheme there is always the opportunity to see what spares, tools, paints and restoration equipment are around.

Advance tickets are £17 or £20 on the day. Children under 12 go free and car parking is also free.
