Standard 8 De-Luxe

Hello. my name is Jörgen Widén, a Club member from Sweden and I own a Standard 8 Deluxe from 1954

A little history about the car.

My car came to Sweden by boat to Nyköping in 1954 and was a left-hand drive from the beginning. The chassis number is CS 15271 LDL which the first L stands for left-hand drive.

The car was sold new to a farmer near where I live. The farmer died and the car was left standing for 10 years. It was bought by a man without any change of ownership. My father knew about the car and thought I should buy it. I had just started working and had my own money so I bought the car in August 1980. Then I was 15 and a half years old. I started renovating the car, but I was not the right age to start with such things.

I started disassembling the car and refurbished some parts before the next one was removed. Parts were marked up and put in boxes until it was time for assembly, which was very good because it is not easy to remember after a long time when it should be reassembled. I changed the ignition parts, tyres and most things to do with the brakes. When all the parts were ready, I started with rust.

The car is legal to drive with trafficators in Sweden. Sweden had left-hand traffic until September 1967.

The Standard cars came to Sweden in large wooden boxes, and the factory where the cars were assembled got a lot of wood, in the beginning, the factory gave away the wood. there were many small cottages built near Nyköping from the wood. But the factory started charging for wood because there were so many people who wanted it.

Most of the car is original.. I have removed the rust and painted the car. But in 1993, the car was ready and went to the car inspection and the car went through without remark.

The car has only gone 43000 km (not miles) since it was new.

If you have any questions, please come back with questions.

Best regards

Jörgen

Hi Jörgen

Great looking early car with trafficators. I am pleased that you can still use these legally in Sweden.

It's great that you are supporting the marque in Sweden and have been a member for such a long time, Don’t forget we have lots of spare parts for the car, should you ever need them.

May the Standard continue to give you great service!
