Standard Big 9 at Prescott Hill Climb

Matt Cannon sends in this report:

A truly special and unforgettable day at Prescott Hill Climb on Saturday 16th July 2022.

Not only did I do my amazing gramps proud after he sadly slipped away that morning while I was en-route to the event, but my 1931 Big Nine smashed the hill climb on both runs.

Her most significant venture for many, many years of just shy of 90 miles round trip in the roaring sun, without any trouble, trundling along comfortably at 40 mph.

The pre-war event was brilliant. I was the only Standard to join the event and take part in the hill climb; best of all, quite a few people knew the model of the car - just brilliant!

Accompanied by a surprise Lancaster Bomber flypast made it even more special, knowing how much gramps loved his aircraft.

The event was very well set up and a joy to take part in, everyone was welcome.

The hill climbs aren’t timed and are more for enjoyment than the competition.

(See the video at the bottom of this article.)

I’ll certainly be looking to sign up again next year - I hope to see you there.

Thanks to a top father-in-law, Paul Adams, for keeping me upbeat on a difficult day.

We then stopped at the Bathurst Arms for a bite to eat and a pint in loving memory of Leonard Maurice Rivers, who was a loving, very talented true engineer, who I will miss dearly and I knew you were watching over me.
