Did
Amy Johnson drive this car?
I saw this car in
Auction more than 15 years ago, when it required restoration. That
restoration has now been completed and the car was offered in
auction again recently:
My thanks go to Peter Lee who
sent me the following extract from Coys auction catalogue
together with the photos.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Registration no:
AUU 490
Commision no: 159801 (The
first chassis number for the Standard 10 - Webmaster)
Year:
1933
This particular Standard is a
fascinating car in that it was the very first Standard 10 ever
built and was fitted with a stunning and elaborate two seater
fixed head coupe body with rear dickey seat and numerous other
special features and is in beautiful condition, yet almost
entirely original. From the retracting sunroof, to the wonderful
sunburst pattern and the original leather interior. Even more
fascinating is that the car was first registered to Capt. Mollison
whose wife was none other than Amy Johnson - the pioneer female
aviator. As a result it is understood that Johnson actually used
this car for promotion purposes for the Standard Motor Company.
The Chairman of which was a friend of Capt. Mollinson himself.
With the number of charming and desirable features, the beautiful
condition and the excellent history this is one of the most
charismatic and significant pre war motor cars which is guaranteed
to raise smiles and delight wherever it goes.

I would be grateful if anyone has
records of Amy Johnson driving this car, or better still,
photographs of the event. Please contact us via the Messageboard
