1930 Big 9 Avon Sports

Neil Wilson recently bought a set of pistons from the Club to fit in his Standard Big 9 Avon

Here he briefly describes his car:

The present engine is fine other than piston slap, especially on the overrun. (All the B9 engines I've known slap!)

Is this a characteristic of the B9? Long 4" stroke, and offset crank to the cylinders. I still don't know why they offset the crank? Oil pressure is good.

I have finally got a needle to suit the SU carb; starts well...on handle...hot or cold...& it is putting out much more power. Fuel consumption is good.

The rest of the car is working well, brakes pull straight & good, steering, transmission, overdrive on top & third. Electrics good. The crown wheel & pinion supplied by the Club is great, thanks.

The car has done about 4000 miles, often on long runs of 200 miles or so.

Many thanks to the Club for getting the car working.

Neil.
