1935 Standard Avon 10/12 Special Tourer

The Rolling Chassis of a Standard 10 was delivered from Standard’s Factory at Canley to the works of the New Avon Body Company at Wharf St, Warwick in 1935.

A 4-seater body, traditionally built with an ash frame was put on the chassis. The body was designed by Charles Frederick Beauvais, a Frenchman, who was responsible for many stunning designs for the Avon Company. The body tub, doors and boot are in aluminium, whilst the wings and bonnet are fabricated in steel. The original colour was white.

At some unknown point, the 10Hp engine was removed and a slightly later Standard engine of 12Hp from about 1937 was installed, presumably to give the car an improved performance.

The car came into its current ownership in 2013 having been dry-stored for the previous 30 years. The owners subsequently rebuilt the engine and restored the car in the Cambridge Blue over Old English White you see today.

In 2015, the rear differential was changed to that of a 12Hp car so the whole thing now drives and is geared as a 12Hp Sportscar.

· Engine: 4 cylinder, side-valve, 1608cc

· Gears: 4 Forward, 1 reverse

· Cable-operated Bendix brakes

· Top Speed: About 65mph
