Mortlock Brothers Standard 8

Neil Crocker, a recent new member hails from New South Wales in Australia. He has owned this Standard 8Hp Tourer for about 3 years but knows very little of its history. It certainly is a pretty colour and complemented by the whitewall tyres.

I have informed Neil that the car was put together by Mortlock Brothers using a body built by TJ Richards, Australian bodybuilders on a rolling chassis supplied by The Standard Motor Company, and also utilising the 4 wings and bonnet panels imported from Coventry.

Neil is unaware of the date of Manufacture of the Car. He has identified the Engine as having an NA prefix in its number which implies it is Postwar. However, the car’s body has distinctive prewar features. First, is that the car has “shallow” doors and the bonnet sides have chrome trim and louvres, both of which were changed in the Post-war model.

The black example that I have illustrated here has full-depth doors and no bonnet side trim elements. This proves that Neil's car is of 1938-9 construction.

Neil is receiving help from the Club to revive the fuel pump that is fitted to his car. Presently it has been replaced with an electric pump. and Neil would like to return it to its original specification.
