Very rare Standard Avon Special with an elegant coupé body
In current ownership the last 34 years
A charming project, with much of the hard work finished awaiting an enthusiast to complete
The Avon Company was a coach builder of some significance and used the Standard Motor Company chassis in developing their own 'elegant sporting models' and exhibited with the Standard Motor Company at the Olympia Motor Exhibition.
The 1932 Standard season included two 16hp Coupés. These had the Avon coachwork with the Standard engine and running gear to promote their "dashing models for the discerning motorist looking for a car giving economical fast transport with compelling beauty of line and finish."
Built on the previous 16hp chassis, the Standard Avon Coupé, a two-seater coupe with a dickey seat, was said to offer value for money at £315 in 1932 and described in The Motor, as possessing "pleasing modern looks."
