The Classic Car Loan Project

Roger Dealtry writes:

We have some exciting news:

The family of a late Club member has offered his Pennant to the Club in order that we can use it as a 'Club Standard' in the Classic Car Loan Project.

For those of you who missed my previous article about the CCLP, it’s a scheme aimed at getting younger people behind the wheel of classic and pre-war cars, in order to create an interest in vehicles which may be a little older than they may be familiar with. Each borrower usually keeps the car for a year.

This particular Pennant is an older restoration and has been out of action since 1995.

It is basically sound, but it needs some work to get it road-worthy: new front and rear screen rubbers, some work to the hydraulics (brakes, clutch) and a good service. There’s also some cosmetic work to sort out. Graham Hart, of Flying V8 fame, has volunteered to do the work free of charge and the Club will supply the parts required. The car will then be MOT'd and offered to the scheme.

Our intention is to find a young 'borrower' relatively near to Graham’s home so that they can be involved with the recommissioning work. This way we can be sure to find someone enthusiastic and just as importantly, pass on some valuable skills relevant to maintaining an older car.

With this in mind, Graham intends to start the work in the New Year with the aim of the car being ready for loan in March or April in time for next year’s rally season.

This is a great opportunity for the Club to raise awareness of the Standard marque among younger folk and generate publicity in the motoring press. I would like to thank everyone who is contributing to making it possible.
