The Most Magnificent Standard Saloon ever Built?

Photo courtesy of Len Barr, Standard Register.

This car is so rare, I am not yet even sure I know what it is! There are 2 contenders:

A 1929 18/42 Saloon

If so, this would have the last of the 6 cylinder overhead valve engines of 2230cc and a 4 speed gearbox

or, a 1929/30 Standard “Envoy” Coach built Saloon.

If so, the car is fitted with the larger version of Alfred Wildes’ newly designed 20Hp, six-cylinder, seven bearing, 2054cc sidevalve engine.

The conveniently open doors show both the driver’s (Chauffeur’s) compartment, trimmed in leather, and the deeply upholstered rear passenger compartment. All the rear compartment windows have pull-down blinds. There is a sliding glass division between the two compartments,

Also of note is the split, V-shaped front screen. Neither the “standard” Envoy nor the 18/42 was equipped with a split screen, so that, and the other luxury appointments, leads me to believe that this car was built to special order. It certainly is a magnificent car!

I am not aware of any surviving examples of either of these cars, but I would be delighted to be proved wrong.
