The restoration of my 1958 Pennant - WSK 180

by Geoffrey Creighton

This was my nightmare buy. I had broken my arm and shoulder and was unable to drive to see the car, so I bought it online from a dealer for way too much money. I could have bought a good car for very little more or even less.

As soon as I picked the car up I knew I had made a mistake, and my friend advised me to sell it on, but I would not do that to another enthusiast. The car was structurally and mechanically unsafe and the more I stripped the car the worse it got.

The car was built on the 23rd of January 1958 and left the factory in Beach White and black with a red leather interior.

In my ownership the car has required a full rebuild with extensive repairs to the shell and most panels have had to be replaced. The engine and gearbox have been rebuilt and the entire braking system renewed. The radiator has been re-cored and the car has been rewired with a new loom supplied through the Standard Motor Club. There are new carpets also courtesy of the Club and the brakes have been upgraded with a Club Servo system. There are new tyres and all new bearings and suspension. A replacement steering box was required. The car was taken back to bare metal and resprayed inside and out with a new livery of Litchfield green and nimbus white.

This car has cost a fortune to restore and should have been scrapped, but I am glad I did it as it is now a fine example of what is becoming a rare car and with modern rust protection should be around for many years to come.

A new MOT was issued on the 20th of December 2021 and the car is ready for a new season of events.

This shows the fitting of the Club provided Brake servo system, available to all members.
