Restored
Standard Companion in Regular Use

Mike
and Val Wilkes with the Companion
| The Companion is
the Estate Car version of the Standard 10. It was built in
two main forms. This is the earlier version and has Standard 10
mechanicals and the same front end treatment as the Saloon. Later versions
used the front panels, trim and mechanical components that were also used on
the Standard Pennant.
471 TMV is a late 50's registered car. It was rescued and restored by Mike
Wilkes, a
serial Standard restorer from Alcester in the
Midlands. The car was later sold to a friend and neighbour
in his home town. Mike has an arrangement to continue
to use the car when he wants to and here he is is seen with
partner Val on the recent East Anglia Roadrun.

The
Companion, along with the Pickup and Van is now the
rarest form of the Standard 8 and 10 range. Concours
examples like this are rarer still. Below:

If you have a
Companion at home waiting for a restoration, let this be an encouragement to
you. If you know of one needing rescuing, go out and save it.
If you have one you are restoring, send me some pictures so that I
can feature it here. Hopefully there will Companions at the Standard
International Rally, could yours join them? Article
