Feature - Standard Tilly 12Hp:

Denis Mathewman has sent these
pictures of this recently restored Standard Utility:
You may be interested in the
attached photo's of a 1943 Standard Tilly that has made it back
onto the road after lying derelict in a field for years. It gained
its MOT only weeks ago and is shown at the Yorkshire MVT event
called Wheels & Wings at Elvington on 12/13th May.
The military number is the original and was just discernable under
the rear number plate, the registration number dates from 1951.
All the best.
ps The other vehicle is a Bomb Disposal Austin Tilly owned by
fellow Military Vehicle Trust member Ian Anderson of York.

The sign in the windscreen can be seen to read
"Standard Tilly 12Hp
Built 1943 to a War Dept. contract at Canley, Nr Coventry.
Engine is 1608cc sidevalve with a 4 speed gearbox.
Discovered derelict in a field near Leconfield, Beverley in the
late 1990's and rebuilt by Brian Fox. Shown at Elvington last year
- passed the MoT in April 2007 and taxed as "Historic"
Less common than the Austin Tillys and used during War as Troop
carrier and general transport"
Hi Denis,
The Tilly looks great, I will feature it on the website in a
couple of days.
Hope you can make the International Rally at Denny Abbey, where
another Tilly, belonging to Paul Birchall, is already entered.
Regards,
Phil Homer
